Under the direction of Dr. Verna Caddie, Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University has become a beacon in committing to honoring incredible musicians and industry leaders. Her dedication and unwavering commitment to nurturing a safe space within her thriving institution for musical talents has been second to none.

Launched in 1979 by visionaries Kenny Gamble, Ed Wright, and Dyana Williams, this month-long observance has evolved from modest beginnings to nationwide recognition, highlighting the cultural and economic significance of Black music.


The line-up consisted of nostalgic key players during an unforgettable time and those who have carried the spirit of R&B into present times. Honorees: Dr. Jody Watley, Dr. Shirley Murdock, Dr. Tanya Nolan, Dr. Christopher Williams, Dr. Karyn White, Dr. Melba Moore, Zapp Band (All Members), and Spud just to name a few.

Dr. Caddie believes in giving those who have made a significant impact in the community their flowers while they can still smell them. The importance of honoring black musicians can inspire continuity in various areas such as social justice, economic impact, historical legacy, inspiration and empowerment, plus so much more.




Many genres such as Jazz, Blues, Hip-Hop and Soul were birthed from the African-American experience since the era of enslavement of our ancestors. Music tells a story through lifestyle, fashion and social movements. Black history and music can be celebrated 365 by amplifying your voice through sharing and promoting creatives within the community. Dr. Caddie's passion for keeping black musicians' legacy in mind is fueled by her belief in knowing how much the culture influences the world.
