Hyundai Motor America has reinforced its commitment to child passenger and pedestrian safety with a significant $100,000 donation to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). This contribution, part of Hyundai’s corporate social responsibility initiative, Hyundai Hope, will bolster CHLA’s Injury Prevention and Child Passenger Safety Program across Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Since the inception of this partnership, Hyundai and CHLA have conducted four child safety seat check events, assisting over 325 families and replacing 100 car seats to ensure optimal safety standards. Additionally, they have educated more than 200 students, caregivers, and educators through LA Street Smarts events focused on pedestrian safety.

“At Hyundai, we prioritize safety and community welfare. Our collaboration with CHLA underscores our dedication to providing families with essential resources and knowledge to protect their children,” remarked Brian Latouf, global chief safety and quality officer, Hyundai Motor Group.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly half of car seats are improperly installed or misused, increasing the risk of injury. Properly used safety seats can reduce fatal injuries by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers, highlighting the critical importance of initiatives like those supported by Hyundai and CHLA.

Moving forward, Hyundai and CHLA will continue to host child safety seat checks across the region, offering free inspections by certified technicians. These experts will assess seat installations for recalls, expiration dates, and appropriate fit for children, providing replacement seats where necessary. Concurrently, LA Street Smarts events will deploy mobile, interactive setups to educate children on safe pedestrian practices through real-life simulations.

“We are deeply grateful for Hyundai’s ongoing partnership, which enables us to expand our reach and impact in promoting child safety,” said Helen Arbogast, Dr.P.H., MPH, manager of the Injury Prevention Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “Together, we empower families with life-saving information and support our mission to enhance children’s health and safety.”
