Fourth Industrial Pictures, in collaboration with local writer and director Holly Charles-Pearson, M.A., is proud to announce the Premiere Roadshow Tour of the alternate history short film If They Took Us Back. Texas audiences are invited to attend the Juneteenth Tour screenings on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at The Paramount Theater (719 Congress Ave., Austin) and on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Emancipation Park Conservancy - Cultural Center (3018 Emancipation Ave, Houston).
If They Took Us Back explores a hypothetical scenario in which formerly enslaved people return to Africa following the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. More than a century later, a descendant of the 'Black Returns' breaks the 160-year exile to return to the U.S. in exchange for overdue reparations from a remorseful, sympathetic, and Black-obsessed America.
The immersive, Juneteenth-inspired events will include not only the screening ofIf They Took Us Back but also a mini-documentary titled The Making of If They Took Us Back. Attendees will enjoy live musical performances by featured soundtrack artist Daniel Fears, browse live vendor stalls and art exhibits, and participate in panel discussions and Q&A sessions with the film's cast and writer/director. The events are hosted by the National Black MBA Association Houston Chapter and Six Square: Austin’s Black Cultural District.
“This film allows us to both celebrate and reimagine Black history through film. My goal is for audiences to leave the experience feeling entertained, informed, and inspired this Juneteenth,” said Holly Charles-Pearson, M.A.
