Charges dropped against grieving Candler mother accused of disrupting son's crime scene

A Candler woman described as being "emotionally distraught and inconsolable" following the death of her son in a Hendersonville parking lot will not face charges, authorities said Tuesday.
On Nov. 24, Patricia King raced from her home in Candler to the parking lot in Hendersonville where her son, Elijah Edward Timmons III, had been shot. Hendersonville police charged her with assault and resisting arrest, claiming she crossed the crime scene tape.
On Tuesday, Henderson County District Attorney Andrew Murray confirmed the charges had been dismissed.
Murray issued the following statement:
In my discretion as the DA, I dismissed the charges. Although I believe there was sufficient evidence to proceed further with the charges, given the circumstances I did not think it was in the interest of justice to proceed. Mrs. King’s son was shot and killed on this evening resulting in her being emotionally distraught and inconsolable. Unfortunately, her resulting behavior was extremely erratic and disruptive to the investigation despite multiple attempts by law enforcement to de-escalate the situation and calm her down."
