Today Alexandra (Alex) del Moral Mealer was sworn in as the newest member of the METRO Board of Directors. The ceremony took place in the METRO Boardroom with Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey administering the oath. Alex was appointed to represent a group of 14 smaller cities that are within METRO's service area.

Alex is a wife and mother of two, a combat veteran, a Harvard JD / MBA and a former energy finance executive.

Following in her grandfathers’ tradition, Alex decided to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point following the 9/11 Terror Attacks. Upon graduation, Alex served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer (bomb squad). Through her experience leading soldiers in combat and defusing bombs in Afghanistan, Alex proved she has the skills necessary to lead during times of crisis.

After her time in service, Alex graduated from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School before moving to Houston to pursue a career in energy finance, where she worked on the execution of billion-dollar transactions as a strategic advisor on mergers & acquisitions and capital markets financing for public and private companies.

"As a representative of the 14 “Multi-cities”, I want to make sure that METRO is a good fiduciary of their investment, which will require strategic planning based on data, directly reflecting the unique characteristics of METRO’s challenging service area that is significantly more spread out (1,309-square-miles) and less dense than service areas of similar population size (e.g., only ~20% of the City of Houston’s population is inside the loop)," Alex said. "I look forward to collaborating with METRO’s board of directors, led by Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock, to tackle these challenges in order to ensure that our region has a best-in-class transit system that is fiscally responsible, safe and efficient."
