Commissioner Lesley Briones led a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a crucial $13.5 million drainage project in the Cimarron subdivision, underscoring Harris County's commitment to enhancing street drainage and reducing flood risk.
“Creating a safer Harris County means taking decisive action to mitigate the risk of future floods. Together with our partners, we are improving flood resilience in Precinct 4 and are strengthening protections for our residents,” said Commissioner Briones.
During Hurricane Harvey, 162 homes in Cimarron faced flooding. The project aims to safeguard over 250 structures, with 77 no longer in the 100-year floodplain, through upgraded drainage systems.
Funded collaboratively, including $6.88 million from the 2018 Harris County Flood Bond, contributions from MUD 81 and Cornerstones MUD were vital. The project, overseen by the Harris County Engineering Department, began in January 2023 and concluded in March 2024.
Commissioner Briones emphasized proactive measures, stating, “In Harris County, we know it isn’t a question of if there will be another big storm. It is simply a question of when." Residents can seek assistance via 832-927-4444 or service@hcp4.net.
