Historical Significance

The Columbia Tap Trail, spanning four miles, holds deep historical importance. Originating as part of the Houston Tap & Brazoria Railway, famously known as "Sugar Road," this trail was once a route for transporting sugar crops and enslaved persons. Post-abolition, it served as a crucial link for Black Convict Labor. Today, the trail connects Texas Southern University to Interstate 45, serving as a cherished community resource for recreation and transportation.

Vision for the Future

The development of the pocket park and trail connection is a pivotal project under the Choice Neighborhood Initiative planning grant. This enhancement not only beautifies the neighborhood but also provides a safe and accessible space for community interaction and physical activities. It's part of HHA’s ongoing commitment to improving community infrastructures and supporting the well-being of its residents.
