Aldine Mustangs Shine on Field and in Classroom
Two standout Aldine Mustangs, Keishon Wiser and Dereon Williams, are making headlines for their impressive achievements in both sports and academics. Senior Keishon Wiser, #21, has dominated this season with 2 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Off the field, his GPA of 5.3277 showcases his academic dedication, and he’s set to continue his journey at Stephen F. Austin University next year.
Fellow Mustang, Dereon Williams, #97, has tallied 9 sacks and 13 tackles for loss, earning scholarship offers from Lincoln University, Quincy University, and Roosevelt University. With a 4.4571 GPA, Williams exemplifies commitment to both his education and athletic future.
These young men embody the Aldine spirit, showing that excellence on the field can go hand-in-hand with academic achievement.

Northbrook Middle School Athletes Exemplify Leadership and Sportsmanship
Northbrook Middle School's Israel Rivera and Evelyn Zapata
Eighth-graders Israel Rivera and Evelyn Zapata at Northbrook Middle School (NMS) in Spring Branch ISD are earning recognition for their leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication, which have impressed coaches and peers.
Israel Rivera, a football and track athlete, initially hesitated to try discus but now excels, achieving a second-place district finish with a throw of 89 feet. “My coaches have helped me mature and take my sport seriously,” he shared.
Evelyn Zapata, from a family of soccer players, has expanded her skills in softball, basketball, and volleyball. Her coaches have helped her become a team leader focused on adaptability and teamwork. “My favorite moments are seeing my teammates progress and grow stronger together,” Zapata said.
Both students embody SBISD’s Core Characteristics for a T-2-4 Ready Graduate, emphasizing qualities like persistence and problem-solving. They’ll continue their journeys next year at Northbrook High School, where Zapata aims to play softball and Rivera looks forward to building on his middle school athletic success.

James Berry Science Magnet School's first Parent University Leaders graduation of the 2024-25 school year
Today, HISD's James Berry Science Magnet School celebrated the first Parent University Leaders graduation of the 2024-25 school year. This dedicated group of parents completed their initial 1.0 coursework last year and have now successfully finished their second framework, focused on advocacy and leadership. Congratulations to these inspiring parent graduates for their commitment to growth and community leadership!
