Texas Southern University will open its 2024-2025 Theatre Season with Whatever Happened to Black Love, a courtroom drama by Professor Thomas Meloncon. First written in 1988, the play has toured widely across the U.S., presenting its powerful themes on the challenges facing the Black family.
Meloncon’s drama explores the critical question of responsibility for the state of the Black family in America, posing a unique “courtroom” setting to examine this issue. The production is suitable for audiences aged 15 and older and will run at the Ollington Smith Playhouse, beginning Thursday, October 10. Performances are scheduled for October 10 at 7 p.m., October 11 at 7 p.m., October 12 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and October 13 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available for $5 for TSU students and $10 for general admission, with sales beginning 30 minutes before each show at the venue.
The season’s lineup also includes Hoodoo Love by Katori Hall (November 21-24), The Imaginary Invalid by Molière (February 20-23), and the musical Once on This Island (April 10-13).
