Get ready, Coogs! The University of Houston is about to turn up the heat, not just with sick beats but with the juiciest burgers in the city. This Tuesday, October 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., the award-winning Trill Burgers, courtesy of Houston rap icon Bun B, will be making a special pop-up appearance at Cougar Woods Commons. It’s a foodie and music lover’s dream rolled into one, giving UH students a taste of greatness without even leaving campus.

What’s Cooking at Cougar Woods?

Thanks to UH Dining Services, powered by Chartwells Higher Education, Trill Burgers and Trill Tenders have already made their mark this season at TDECU Stadium, feeding Cougar football fans during home games. But now, they’re taking it up a notch by bringing these famous burgers to the 24-hour dining facility—aka Cougar Woods Commons—proving once again that this campus knows how to mix business with pleasure.

"We wanted to shake up the routine a bit and bring something fresh, exciting, and downright delicious to our students," said Charles Pereira, Chartwells’ VP of Operations. "The Trill Burger is a game-changer and stands out as something truly unique compared to our usual burger options."

The Legend of Trill Burgers

Bun B launched Trill Burgers in 2021 as a pop-up, giving hungry Houstonians a flavor-packed respite during the height of the pandemic. And, folks, this is no ordinary burger joint. By 2022, Trill Burgers had earned national fame after winning Good Morning America’s United States of Burgers competition. Since then, it’s become a staple at major festivals like Coachella, Rolling Loud, and Rock the Bells—even rocking the crowd (and their taste buds) at Houston's own Livestock Show & Rodeo, where Trill Burgers took home the prestigious Gold Buckle Foodie Award for Best Classic Fair Food.

That’s right, Coogs—this isn’t just any pop-up. This is a burger that’s put Houston on the national culinary map. So, when we say it’s worth the wait, we mean it. And trust us, you’ll want to get there early because Trill Burgers’ lines tend to snake around the block faster than a Bun B verse.

Bringing the Flavor to Campus

With its deep roots in Houston, Trill Burgers shares a connection to the UH community, which is something Alexcis Mendoza, District Marketing Director, takes pride in. "This is more than just burgers," Mendoza said. "It’s about giving our students, many of whom are from right here in Houston, the chance to experience something that represents the city they love, without having to travel off campus."

And as if the burgers weren’t enough to draw you in, the event will also feature a “dirty soda fountain,” where students can mix syrups and creams to craft their own fizzy masterpieces. A DJ will be spinning beats from Bun B and other Houston artists, making sure the vibes match the flavor.

A Campus Connection to a Rap Icon

For UH football fans, Bun B is already a familiar name. From producing the “Red Alert” hype video for the team to performing alongside Paul Wall at halftime, Bun B has cemented his place as a Cougar favorite. But what students might not know is how deep his culinary chops run, adding yet another layer to his Houston legacy.

Dr. Emily A. Messa, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice President for Administration at UH, shared her excitement, saying, "It’s incredible to make this connection for our student community. Bun B is not only a Houston rap legend, but he’s also built an award-winning restaurant venture that’s making waves. Bringing that flavor to Cougar Woods Commons, even for just a few hours, is a treat for everyone."

Get There Early

If you’re craving some Trill Burgers greatness, plan accordingly. These pop-ups have a reputation for long lines, and with just two hours to grab a burger, you don’t want to miss out.

So, UH, gear up for an evening of good music, better burgers, and unforgettable vibes. It’s not every day you get to taste an award-winning burger and jam out to Houston’s finest rap icon—without even leaving campus.
