On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the Houston Fire Department (HFD) will receive a significant donation from Cheniere Energy in the form of 18 FLIR K33 thermal imaging cameras.
The donation is part of an ongoing effort by the Fire Fighter Foundation of Houston, which raises funds for life-saving equipment for HFD. Since its founding in 2006, the foundation has donated over $3 million in critical gear. For 2024, the foundation has focused on securing 25 thermal cameras for the training facility, where older, field-retired models are currently in use.
Thermal imaging cameras are essential tools that help firefighters see through smoke, locate victims, and monitor fire spread, greatly increasing safety for both firefighters and those they rescue. Cheniere Energy, a longtime sponsor of the foundation, is funding 18 of the 25 cameras needed, with the foundation covering the remaining cost.
This donation is expected to enhance the department's training capabilities and improve safety for Houston firefighters and the community.
