On Saturday, October 26, 2024, Galveston Island will host its inaugural Halloween parade, The Mystical Parade of Boo, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Strand District.
Participants from 36 organizations will march and celebrate, delighting thousands of attendees in this family-friendly, free event. The parade will feature floats, foot groups, and vehicles, including Jeeps and select golf carts. Leading the procession will be the Ball High School Color Guard, accompanied by members of the U.S. Navy in honor of Navy Week. A special Monster Mash-up will showcase performances by the Texas A&M University at Galveston Sea Aggie Band and the Galveston Community Band.
Produced by the Carnes Parade Krewe, Krewe of Misfits, and Tutu Live Krewe, the event has received strong support from the City of Galveston, the Galveston Police Department, Visit Galveston, and local sponsors, including Market Station and Daiquiri Time Out.
Lead organizers Jay and Lori Carnes, Becky Major, and Donna Swartz expressed excitement about the collaboration. “When you have the right team beside you, the possibilities seem limitless,” Swartz said.
The parade will begin at 28th Street and Market Street, making two loops through the district. Major reflected on the journey, noting the surprising growth of the event from an initial idea in May 2024.
The Carnes will host revelers on their Dancing Queen and Dancing King floats, and an 80-foot truck and trailer will allow the Sea Aggie and Galveston Community Bands to perform during the parade.
