In an exciting development for motorsports enthusiasts, Cadillac Racing has announced a significant expansion of its IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship program for 2025. This bold move will see the prestigious brand field three Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) factory cars, solidifying its presence on the grid and enhancing competition in one of the world’s premier sports car racing series.

The expansion includes the return of Wayne Taylor Racing, a team with a rich history of success alongside Cadillac, as well as reigning IMSA GTP champions, Action Express Racing. These two powerhouses will collectively run three Cadillac V-Series.R race cars, each powered by the renowned Cadillac 5.5L DOHC V8 engine. The lineup promises to bring thrilling action to the track, though drivers for the 2025 season have yet to be announced.

A Legacy of Success: Wayne Taylor Racing Returns to Cadillac

Wayne Taylor Racing’s return to Cadillac marks a revival of one of the most successful partnerships in IMSA history. Wayne Taylor, a former GM factory driver who has been associated with the company since 1990, expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining forces with Cadillac.

“I’m thrilled to return to the Cadillac family,” said Taylor, whose team last raced with Cadillac in 2020. "We've had so much success with GM over the years, from wins at the Rolex 24 At Daytona to numerous championships. This global program is truly exciting, and we have big plans on the horizon."

Wayne Taylor Racing will field two Cadillac V-Series.Rs in the upcoming 2025 season, ensuring a strong presence for the team in Cadillac’s expanding lineup.

Action Express Racing: Continuing a Winning Tradition

Action Express Racing, the 2023 IMSA GTP team and driver champions, will also be part of Cadillac’s ambitious new chapter. Under the Cadillac Whelen banner, they will continue to campaign the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R in IMSA’s top-tier GTP class.

The team, known for its dominance in endurance racing, has been a close partner of General Motors since 2012. Action Express Racing’s success includes victories with the Corvette DP, as well as Cadillac’s DPi and GTP programs. “It’s an honor to represent Cadillac once again,” said Gary Nelson, team manager at Action Express Racing. “We look forward to competing for more championships and wins at the highest level.”

Cadillac Racing’s Championship Pedigree

Since 2005, Cadillac Racing has earned nine Manufacturer Championships in sports car racing, amassing an impressive 69 total wins, 30 of which have been in IMSA prototype competitions since 2017. The Cadillac V-Series.R represents the third generation of Cadillac prototype race cars and the first to feature electric motor components, blending tradition with cutting-edge technology.

This GTP car is a collaborative effort between Cadillac Design, Cadillac Racing, and renowned chassis constructor Dallara. Its sleek design integrates signature Cadillac V-Series elements like vertical lighting and floating blades, delivering a stunning combination of performance and style.

A Bright Future Ahead

With the 2025 season on the horizon, Cadillac Racing’s expanded lineup promises more thrilling competition, technical innovation, and a continuation of the brand’s winning legacy.
