In a record-breaking August, the Harris-Walz campaign demonstrated the sheer power of grassroots support, raising an unprecedented $361 million. This staggering figure, the largest in presidential history, puts the campaign on a strong footing as it barrels toward the final stretch of the 2024 election. With nearly 3 million donors contributing in August alone—many of them first-time supporters—Team Harris-Walz now boasts a $404 million war chest. This grassroots-powered momentum is critical for taking on the Trump campaign, whose billionaire-funded super PACs are funneling massive sums into battleground states.
Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, hailed this achievement as a reflection of the campaign’s broad, diverse coalition. "The enthusiasm and energy we're seeing will be the key to winning this hard-fought election," she stated. “We’re making every dollar count as we mobilize voters to ensure a victory over Donald Trump.”
This groundswell of support comes as Team Trump, aided by super PACs like MAGA Inc., has spent over $100 million in ads and direct mail since July. Key GOP donors, including billionaires Tim Mellon and Miriam Adelson, have committed over $150 million in support of Trump’s campaign. Yet, despite this financial onslaught, the Harris-Walz team continues to hold its own with its massive grassroots base.
August marked a significant milestone for the Harris-Walz campaign, with five of the top ten fundraising days occurring that month. The choice of Governor Walz as Harris’ running mate spurred one of the biggest fundraising surges of the cycle. Nearly 95% of donations were under $200, with a notable rise in contributions from teachers, nurses, and working-class families.
As Election Day approaches, the Harris-Walz campaign has ramped up its efforts with over 2,000 events scheduled and more than 312 coordinated campaign offices working tirelessly across the battleground states. A $370 million investment in digital and television ads is planned to communicate directly with voters on critical issues, including Trump’s controversial Project 2025 agenda.
This grassroots juggernaut will be essential in countering Trump’s billionaire-funded machinery. Team Harris-Walz is focusing on voter mobilization, particularly among Black, Latino, AANHPI, and young voters, as well as women. In the words of DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, “This historic war chest is proof of the excitement surrounding Vice President Harris’ candidacy, and we’re ready to take this all the way to victory in November."
As the final stretch heats up, both campaigns are engaged in an intense spending battle, but Harris-Walz’s grassroots strength and historic fundraising haul signal that this election will be one for the history books.
