The race to optimize electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure is accelerating as EVgo Inc. and General Motors (GM) elevate their partnership to new heights. In a bold move, the two industry giants announced the rollout of 400 fast charging stalls at flagship locations across major U.S. metropolitan areas, designed to cater to the growing EV market.
In an era where EV adoption is on the rise, EVgo—one of the largest public fast charging networks—and GM have collaborated to address the pressing need for a more robust, reliable, and user-friendly charging ecosystem. These next-generation flagship stations will not only cater to increased demand but will revolutionize the EV experience through innovative features, convenience, and accessibility.
Customer-Centric Features Leading the Charge
Each flagship location promises to offer more than just speed. Expect 350kW fast chargers capable of delivering quick charging times, ample lighting, canopies, pull-through access, and advanced security cameras to ensure a seamless, safe experience for every driver. These stations will prioritize customer comfort and convenience, situated near bustling amenities like shopping centers, restaurants, and coffee shops—allowing drivers to maximize their downtime while their EVs power up.
According to Dennis Kish, President at EVgo, “The future of EV charging is about larger stall count locations and customer-driven innovations. With features like pull-through access and nearby services, we are delivering a charging experience that is not only fast but enjoyable.”
Most flagship locations will offer up to 20 charging stalls, with select spots featuring even more, strategically placed in states like Texas, California, Florida, New York, and Michigan—areas with a fast-growing EV driver base.
A Vision for 2025 and Beyond
The first of these flagship charging stations is expected to open in 2025, promising to revolutionize urban mobility coast to coast. Utilizing EVgo’s modular prefabrication approach, the construction of these stations will be expedited, ensuring swift expansion and meeting future EV demands.
GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer added, “Ensuring seamless access to reliable, convenient charging is our top priority. Collaborating with EVgo means we’re one step closer to making EV charging as simple as fueling up your traditional vehicle.”
Beyond flagship locations, EVgo and GM are committed to expanding the nation’s charging infrastructure. Their ongoing efforts include a plan to install 2,850 DC fast charging stalls across metropolitan areas, with an additional push to deliver premium charging services at these flagship locations. In August 2023, the partnership celebrated the milestone opening of their 1,000th fast charging stall, with expectations to hit the 2,000-mark by the end of 2024.
A Brighter, Electrified Future
The EVgo and GM collaboration marks a major leap forward in making EV ownership easier and more appealing to everyday drivers. With innovations and strategic deployments, this partnership aims to make charging an EV as seamless as possible, paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.
