In a city that thrives on diversity and cultural richness, few celebrations capture the heart of the community like Harris County Precinct 4’s Hispanic Heritage Month Festival. This year, Commissioner Lesley Briones is once again bringing the fiesta spirit to life with the much-anticipated 2nd Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival—a family-friendly event that promises to be bigger and better than ever!

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., the vibrant sounds of mariachi music and the irresistible aroma of local food trucks will fill the air at Bayland Park (6400 Bissonnet Street, Houston, TX 77074). It’s a day designed to celebrate the rich Latino heritage that is woven into the very fabric of Houston’s culture. From piñata making and face painting to an exciting community workshop that allows attendees to envision the future of Bayland Park, this event has something for everyone.

But it’s not all fun and games—Commissioner Briones and her team have ensured that this festival also empowers the community with resources and information. More than 15 community partners will be present, offering everything from voter registration to health screenings. So while you’re savoring that mouth-watering taco or dancing along to the mariachi band, you can also take a moment to check out some life-enhancing services that Harris County offers.

Harris County Precinct 4 has long been proud of its incredible diversity, and this event highlights the precinct’s Latino communities in a way that is as educational as it is celebratory. Commissioner Briones herself embodies the strength and success of these communities, championing the voices of over 1.2 million residents and overseeing the precinct's vast infrastructure, which includes over 1,600 miles of roads, 55 parks, and 14,000 acres of greenspace.

As if that’s not enough, this year’s festival will include an interactive workshop on the Bayland Park Master Plan, a project designed to transform the park into a premier destination for southwest Houston. Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas to the park’s future, ensuring that the space reflects the needs and desires of the community it serves.

For Commissioner Briones, this festival is not just about celebrating Hispanic heritage—it’s about creating a space where families can come together, celebrate their roots, and envision a brighter future for the next generation. “Harris County is built on the strength of our diverse communities, and this festival is a testament to that strength,” says Briones.

So, whether you’re coming for the culture, the food, or the community resources, one thing is certain: the 2nd Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival will be a day of celebration, unity, and forward-thinking. Mark your calendars, Houston—you won’t want to miss this!
