From the heart of Texas to the vast open seas, Petty Officer 3rd Class Kayden Gremillion is making his mark aboard the USS John C. Stennis, one of the most formidable aircraft carriers in the U.S. Navy. A proud Houston native and graduate of Cinco Ranch High School, Gremillion’s journey is a testament to resilience, service, and family.

A Floating Powerhouse

The USS John C. Stennis, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, stretches over 1,092 feet—longer than three football fields—and houses more than 5,000 sailors. As a gunner’s mate, Gremillion plays a crucial role in maintaining the ship’s defense systems, ensuring the vessel remains combat-ready while carrying out missions that support global security, humanitarian efforts, and naval dominance.

Aircraft carriers serve as the backbone of the U.S. Navy, capable of projecting power across international waters, responding to crises, and providing aid in times of disaster. The Navy, now celebrating its 250th anniversary, continues to recruit and train skilled individuals like Gremillion to uphold America’s maritime strength.

A Commitment to Service and Family

For Gremillion, serving in the Navy is about more than duty—it’s about personal growth and providing for his family. “I am proudest of being able to provide for my daughters and growing into the man I am today,” he shares. His wife, Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class Jalayssia Washington, is also a dedicated sailor, and together, they plan to serve 20 years before retirement.

While his naval career has shaped his discipline and leadership, Gremillion has ambitions beyond the military. “I want to get my barber license and someday open up my own shop,” he says, proving that service members carry dreams and aspirations beyond their time in uniform.

Lessons from Houston to the High Seas

Growing up in Houston instilled in Gremillion the values of trust, perseverance, and community—traits that have helped him navigate military life. “I learned early on to watch who I trust,” he notes. “In the Navy, knowing who has your back can make the difference between success and failure.”

Gremillion’s story reflects the spirit of many Houstonians—driven, family-oriented, and always striving for excellence. His journey serves as an inspiration for those looking to explore the world while making a meaningful impact.

As he continues his service aboard one of the world’s most powerful warships, Houston stands proud, knowing one of its own is out at sea, representing the values of the Bayou City on a global scale.
