A new star has risen in Houston’s Heights! Starduster Lounge, the latest addition to North Main Street’s thriving bar scene, officially opens its doors today. Blending rugged West Texas aesthetics with Houston’s urban energy, this new neighborhood hotspot is the brainchild of local entrepreneur and musician Will Thomas, in partnership with bar owner Benjy Mason, known for Johnny’s Gold Brick and Winnie’s.

A Space Where History Meets Modern Flair

Housed in a restored 1940s building, formerly home to the beloved Spanish Flowers restaurant, Starduster Lounge is a nostalgic yet innovative take on Houston’s nightlife. Gin Braverman of Gin Design Group has preserved the space’s vintage character, incorporating original hand-painted tiles, arched doorways, and plaster walls while introducing fresh artistic elements. The standout feature? A breathtaking West Texas-inspired mural by Carissa Marx-Beaty, created using natural earth pigments and clays sourced across Texas.

"Our goal was to honor the building’s history while infusing it with an inviting, eclectic atmosphere," says Braverman. "It’s a space where neighbors can exchange nods across the four-sided bar, lounge under the massive oak tree, or cozy up by a faux fireplace."

A Drink Menu That Highlights Houston’s Craft Scene

The Starduster Lounge beverage program is a curated mix of cocktails, craft beer, and small-batch spirits, spearheaded by Benjy Mason and bartender Justin Ware. Expect:
✔️ A streamlined cocktail menu featuring fun and approachable options
✔️ A selection of whiskey, agave spirits, and Houston craft brews, including Saint Arnold and Lone Pint
✔️ 8th Wonder’s cannabis-infused beverages, adding a modern twist

While food service is not available at launch, plans for a West Texas-inspired menu are in the works, with rotating food trucks providing delicious bites in the meantime.

"Supporting Houston’s craft beverage scene is a major focus for us," says Thomas. "We want to create a space where locals can gather, unwind, and enjoy top-quality drinks."

More Than a Bar—A Community Hub for Music & Culture

Beyond drinks and ambiance, Starduster Lounge aims to be a cultural gathering spot. The venue will host Western movie screenings, guest bartenders from the local music scene, and collaborations with Houston’s hospitality community. While not a traditional live music venue, music remains a core element of the lounge’s atmosphere.

"It’s a place where artists, musicians, and service industry folks can kick back after a show or shift," Thomas adds.
