As one of the few Black-owned wineries in the state, their winemaking journey began in 2014 when they purchased a 75-acre ranch in Washington County, initially intending it as a weekend retreat from their demanding careers in law and medicine.

Inspired by the scenic beauty of the region during drives to Austin, Kurt envisioned transforming the ranch into a vineyard. The couple planted their first vines of Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish grapes, marking the humble beginnings of Chapelton Vineyards. Their passion for winemaking grew, leading them to expand the vineyard and collaborate with Texas A&M University to establish sustainable farming practices.

In April 2023, the Lyns officially opened Chapelton Vineyards to the public, featuring a contemporary two-story tasting room and upscale villas for guests.
