STEM Greater Houston, powered by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), is set to launch its highly anticipated inaugural STEM Fest on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the MI3 Center, located at 1135 Ella Crossing Drive, Houston, TX 77090.

This groundbreaking event will bring together students from grades K-12 for a morning packed with over 60 interactive STEM activities, fostering curiosity and innovation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Sponsored by the ASME Foundation, STEM Greater Houston, ASME, and the MI3 Center, this event is completely free for all students, ensuring equitable access to hands-on learning experiences.

“We are thrilled to bring STEM Fest to Houston,” said Dr. Calvin Mackie, founder of STEM Global Action (SGA). “Through this collaboration, we’re opening doors for students of all backgrounds to explore careers in engineering and STEM-related fields. By making STEM education engaging and inclusive, we are cultivating the next generation of engineers, scientists, and leaders who will shape the future.”

Stephanie Viola, Managing Director of Programs & Philanthropy at ASME, emphasized the transformative impact of early STEM exposure. “Our goal is to ignite young minds and expand their horizons by showcasing the endless possibilities within STEM,” she said. “Through STEM Global Action, we are committed to leveraging STEM education as a force for empowerment in communities nationwide.”

A Transformative Collaboration for the Future

The inaugural STEM Fest represents a significant milestone in the partnership between SGA, STEM Greater Houston, and ASME. Their joint mission is to bridge the STEM education gap in urban communities while fostering a diverse pipeline of future innovators, creators, and problem-solvers. By providing students—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds—with the tools, mentorship, and real-world experiences they need, the program is laying the foundation for long-term success in STEM careers.

STEM Fest Highlights:

  • Over 60 immersive STEM stations featuring cutting-edge activities across science, technology, engineering, and math.
  • Career exploration opportunities, including mentorship from industry leaders and professionals.
  • Hands-on experiences such as drone flying, motorized car building, and experimenting with groundbreaking technologies.

“STEM education is critical for shaping the future,” said Dr. Mackie. “Events like STEM Fest help students uncover their passion for STEM early on. By connecting with mentors, exploring career paths, and developing essential skills, students will be better equipped for success in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. This event is a valuable resource for students, parents, and educators looking to engage with STEM in a dynamic and inspiring way.”
