In a significant stride toward bridging the digital divide, Compudopt, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing free technology access and education to under-resourced youth and their communities, has partnered with Comcast to offer complimentary high-speed Xfinity Internet services to thousands of families across Houston, Atlanta, and Chicago. This initiative, launched on February 24, 2025, in Houston, also saw 200 families receiving free laptop computers, underscoring the commitment to enhancing digital accessibility in underserved communities.

The collaboration leverages Comcast's Internet Essentials Partnership Program (IEPP), established in 2020 to accelerate student internet adoption through alliances with school districts and community organizations. By integrating resources, Compudopt and Comcast aim to address the pressing issue of digital inequity, which, according to 2023 U.S. Census data, affects nearly 11% of U.S. households lacking access to high-speed internet.

"In today's interconnected world, digital access is not a luxury but a necessity," stated Compudopt CEO Megan Steckly. "Economic challenges often force families to choose between essential services and internet connectivity. Our partnership with Comcast provides a sustainable solution, especially crucial for the thousands impacted by the conclusion of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)."

To commemorate the partnership's inauguration, Compudopt and Comcast hosted a distribution event at the Tejano Center for Community Concerns in Houston. During the event, 200 local families were equipped with free laptops and connected to Xfinity internet services at no cost. The event garnered support from local elected officials and community leaders, highlighting the collective effort to promote digital inclusion.

"Every family deserves the opportunity to connect to vital online resources, from education and healthcare to banking and community services," emphasized Comcast Texas' Regional Senior Vice President, Jose Espinel. "Digital accessibility paves the way for broader opportunities, and our collaboration with Compudopt is poised to make a meaningful impact on numerous households across the nation."
