On January 8, 2024, Total Wine & More at 2857 Katy Fwy Suite 100, Houston, TX, hosted an unforgettable event featuring Morris Chestnut and Harold Perrineau. The Hollywood stars, best known for their iconic roles in The Best Man movies and series, presented their premium whiskey brand, Sable Bourbon, to an eager crowd. Fans enjoyed photo opportunities, bottle signings, and tastings while connecting with the actors behind this remarkable spirit.

Sable Bourbon is a collaboration between Bespoken Spirits and a powerhouse creative team that includes actors Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Harold Perrineau, and filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee. This partnership blends Hollywood star power with exceptional craftsmanship to create a whiskey that’s as distinctive as its creators.

I had the chance to have a one-on-one with Chestnut and Perrineau, where they shared insights into the creation of Sable Bourbon and their passion for the project.

HSM: How did the idea for Sable Bourbon come about?
Perrineau: I met this really interestingly great company, Bespoken Spirits, and I wanted to do something with my brothers that was not going to be Best Man movie related. I met with Bespoken, and they said, “Let’s do it.” And we worked really hard to create something that was representative of us.

HSM: Tell us about your passion for bourbon.
Chestnut: Surprisingly, I wasn’t a bourbon drinker. Now I am. I love Sable, and I love that people are positively responding to it. We have already won awards. I am really excited about this project.
Perrineau: The bourbon has notes of chocolate, marzipan. It’s rich—a little peppery at the end. It is a good, mild spirit.
Chestnut: Harold is the bourbon aficionado of the group.

(I tried the bourbon with Perrineau and Chestnut, and I must say it’s fantastic.)

HSM: Sable is really light and smooth. Harold mentioned the peppery finish, but I felt it more at the tip of my tongue—it didn’t linger and quickly faded, letting me savor the hints of chocolate and a subtle oak flavor that washed down perfectly.

HSM: What projects are you currently working on?
Chestnut: I have a new show that will launch  on January 26, 2025. It’s called Watson and will premiere on CBS.
Perrineau: I have been working on From. It streams on MGM+, and I’m excited for everyone to see what’s coming next.
