Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Commissioner Dexter McCoy released a statement criticizing County Judge KP George for withdrawing from a live candidate forum scheduled for Feb. 5 and hosted by the Houston Chronicle. McCoy said the cancellation prompted him to organize a separate online town hall to engage directly with voters.

In his statement, McCoy referenced ongoing legal issues involving Judge George and questioned the decision to cancel the forum. He said the public forum was an opportunity for voters to hear directly from candidates ahead of the upcoming election.

Following the cancellation, McCoy announced he will host an online town hall from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. CST, moderated by former KPRC journalist Khambrel Marshall. According to McCoy’s campaign, the event will be open to the public, with participants able to ask questions online.

McCoy is currently running for Fort Bend County Judge. His campaign reported last month that it has raised $275,933 since July. Campaign officials also say McCoy has received endorsements from local elected officials and community leaders throughout the county.

During his tenure as Precinct 4 Commissioner, McCoy has supported funding for transportation projects, parks, and infrastructure. He has also backed policies increasing the county’s minimum wage for employees and establishing paid parental leave. McCoy was involved in the development of the African American Heritage Monument in Kendleton and appointed the first Latina Justice of the Peace in the precinct.

McCoy attended Fort Bend ISD schools and is a graduate of Boston University. Prior to his election as commissioner, he served in the Obama administration and later held leadership roles within Fort Bend ISD. He also served on the Gulf Coast Workforce Development Board, which oversees regional workforce and development funding.

McCoy lives in Richmond with his wife and children.
