Fort Bend County residents have an opportunity to gain a behind-the-scenes look at local law enforcement as the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office opens applications for its Fall 2026 Citizens Police Academy.
The free 11-week program is designed to educate community members about the Sheriff's Office, its operations, and the public safety services provided throughout Fort Bend County. Participants will attend weekly classes on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy, located at 1521 Eugene Heimann Circle in Richmond.
Throughout the academy, attendees will learn directly from division commanders, program managers, and subject matter experts who oversee key areas of law enforcement. The curriculum includes classroom instruction, facility tours, and hands-on learning experiences that provide insight into Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Homeland Security, Narcotics Investigations, the 9-1-1 Communications Center, Detention Services, Training, and other specialized units.
Participants will also have the opportunity to tour Sheriff’s Office facilities and meet members of the agency’s executive leadership team, including Sheriff Eric Fagan.
The Citizens Police Academy aims to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community while increasing public understanding of the criminal justice system and the services provided by the Sheriff’s Office.
Enrollment is limited to 35 participants, and there is no cost to attend. Applications and nominations will be accepted through 4 p.m. on August 17, 2026. The academy begins August 27 and concludes November 5, 2026.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have no arrest record.
