Congressman Menefee is marking his first 100 days in office after being sworn into Congress on February 2, 2026, following a lengthy vacancy in Texas’ 18th Congressional District after the passing of the late Sylvester Turner.

Before Menefee’s election, the district went 334 days without representation in Congress.

According to his office, Menefee’s first months in Congress have focused on rebuilding representation for the district, advancing legislation tied to voting rights and environmental justice, and strengthening constituent services for residents across the district.

During his first 100 days, Menefee introduced three pieces of legislation, including the Special Elections Timeliness Act, also known as the SET Act, designed to help prevent congressional districts from experiencing prolonged vacancies following the death or departure of elected officials.

He also co-sponsored 49 bills centered on lowering costs for working families, expanding economic opportunity, and increasing government accountability. On the House floor, Menefee has debated 13 bills while advocating for environmental justice initiatives, voting rights protections, and policies impacting underserved communities.

The congressman has participated in more than 100 meetings with local stakeholders, advocacy groups, community leaders, and constituents in both Washington, D.C., and throughout Texas’ 18th Congressional District.

In addition to legislative work, Menefee built a congressional office from the ground up by hiring staff in both Houston and Washington to assist residents with federal services and constituent concerns. His office reports that more than 200 constituent casework requests have already been opened, helping residents navigate issues involving Social Security, immigration services, veterans benefits, and other federal agencies.

Menefee was also appointed to the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, where he is working on issues related to scientific research funding, innovation, and Houston’s role in the nation’s space industry.

As he marks the milestone, Menefee is also preparing for the Democratic runoff election for Texas’ 18th Congressional District against Congressman Al Green. The runoff election is scheduled for May 26, 2026.
