Families, veterans, aviation enthusiasts and community members will have a chance to honor Memorial Day weekend through history, education and hands-on activities as the Lone Star Flight Museum presents its “Wings of Vietnam” special exhibition later this month.

The one-day static aircraft display on Saturday, May 23, will feature more than a dozen Vietnam War-era aircraft on the museum ramp, offering visitors a rare opportunity to get an up-close look at some of the military aircraft that played a major role during the war. Featured aircraft are expected to include the F-4 Phantom, NASA’s T-38, CH-46 Sea Knight, T-28, F-100 and the A-1D Skyraider.

Museum officials say the event is designed not only to celebrate aviation history, but also to remember and honor the United States military men and women who gave their lives in service to the nation.

One of the weekend’s anticipated highlights will take place shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday, when the T/A-4 taxis and departs for several passes around the airport, giving spectators a chance to witness the aircraft in motion. Organizers encourage visitors to arrive when the museum opens at 10 a.m. to catch the full experience.

In addition to the aircraft display, the museum will host a variety of educational talks, interactive STEM activities and family-friendly programming throughout Memorial Day weekend. Free flight simulator access will be available during select hours, while younger visitors can participate in activities such as paper airplane demonstrations, toddler dress-up experiences and poppy rock painting in remembrance of fallen soldiers.

Saturday’s programming includes a Plane of the Month hangar talk featuring the Beechcraft T-34B Mentor, a ballooning presentation by Debbie Rice and the museum’s popular “Show Me the Mooney” aviation session. Sunday activities continue with STEM demonstrations focused on space exploration and additional simulator access.

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, the museum will offer discounted admission at $10 for all guests ages 5 and older. Admission remains free for museum members and children ages 4 and under.

The museum is also promoting its Summer Passport to Fun program, sponsored by United Airlines. Families can purchase a Family Summer Pass for $80, which includes unlimited admission for two adults and three children from Memorial Day through Labor Day, along with discounts on summer camps, special programs and gift shop purchases.

The Lone Star Flight Museum will remain open daily throughout the summer season, including Mondays.
