Fort Bend Transit will launch a new bus route connecting Westpark Park & Ride in Richmond to Downtown Houston on Oct. 12, expanding public transportation options for Fort Bend County residents.
The new service will replace the existing Westpark-to-Energy Corridor route in response to community feedback identifying Downtown Houston as a preferred destination. A community survey found interest in improved access to downtown, prompting Fort Bend Transit to develop a route that better aligns with riders’ transportation needs.
Perri D’Armond, transit director for Fort Bend Transit, said the agency is working to direct resources toward services that provide the greatest benefit to the community.
The new route will provide direct access to Downtown Houston for $4 each way. The service is intended to help Fort Bend County residents reach employment opportunities, medical appointments, entertainment venues, events and other destinations in Houston.
Fort Bend County Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy said the new route could help residents reduce transportation costs while avoiding the challenges of Houston traffic and parking.
McCoy also emphasized the role of public transportation in reducing roadway congestion and improving road safety, affordability and accessibility for residents.
The launch represents an adjustment to Fort Bend Transit’s services based on community input and demand for connections between Fort Bend County and Downtown Houston.
