Kroger officials and community representatives celebrate the groundbreaking of the company’s $41 million Kroger Marketplace in Hockley, Texas.

As Hockley continues to grow, bringing more residents and development to the area, access to everyday conveniences is becoming increasingly important. A new $41 million Kroger Marketplace is taking shape off Betka Road, bringing the community closer to having another grocery shopping destination nearby.

The Kroger Co. recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the nearly 100,000-square-foot store, marking the company's first new store in the Houston area in 10 years. The location is expected to open in early 2028 and create more than 200 jobs.

The new store will expand access to fresh groceries, pharmacy services and household essentials for residents in the growing Hockley area. Its arrival will provide another option for families seeking convenient access to everyday necessities closer to home.

The Kroger Marketplace concept combines a full-service grocery store and pharmacy with an expanded selection of general merchandise. Customers will have access to fresh produce, meat and seafood, bakery and deli items, household essentials and seasonal merchandise in one location.

The Hockley store will be built on approximately 11 acres and anchor a larger 38-acre retail development. Plans for the surrounding property include additional small-shop spaces and future sites for restaurants, retailers and service providers.

Beyond expanded shopping options, the development is expected to contribute to the local economy through more than 200 new jobs. The investment also adds to the area's growing retail landscape as Hockley continues to attract development.

Additional details about the store will be announced closer to its anticipated early 2028 opening.
