A local Army veteran will soon receive significant improvements to his longtime family home through Rebuilding Together Houston's Rebuilding to Honor program, an initiative supported by H-E-B Helping Here that recognizes veterans through essential home repairs.

Julian Q. Ellis, who continues to reside in the home where he grew up, served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter supply specialist, carrying forward his father's legacy of military service. He has a 90% service-connected disability stemming from his military service.

Beyond his time in the military, Ellis remains connected to his community through his faith and love of music. He is also the father of four sons and three daughters.

The home improvement project will address several important safety, accessibility and structural needs. Planned contractor work includes a complete roof replacement, electrical upgrades, a new water heater, replacement of flooring in three bedrooms and a bathroom, and the removal of damaged sheetrock throughout the home. The existing bathtub will also be replaced with a low-curb shower to improve accessibility.

Rebuilding Together Houston CEO Christine Holland emphasized the organization's ongoing commitment to supporting veterans by helping ensure their homes are safe, healthy, accessible and better prepared to withstand future disasters.

H-E-B is supporting the project through its Operation Appreciation initiative. Johnny Mojica, H-E-B Public Affairs Manager, highlighted the importance of recognizing veterans through meaningful community support and providing them with safer, more comfortable places to call home. H-E-B Partners will also participate in the project, contributing their time to the home's exterior improvements.

On Tuesday, November 3, H-E-B volunteers will join the effort at Ellis' home to complete exterior painting, construct two picnic tables for the family and assist with yard cleanup. Their participation will add a hands-on community component to the larger renovation project.

The volunteer effort will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3622 Crosby Street, Houston, TX 77021.

Through partnerships between community organizations, businesses and volunteers, the project reflects the importance of recognizing military service through actions that make a lasting difference in the lives of veterans and their families.
