District J Council Member Edward Pollard recognized David Davis and Shavonne Gordon Tuesday for their courage, service and commitment to the Houston community during a ceremony at Houston City Hall.

Davis and Gordon each received a City of Houston proclamation recognizing their actions and contributions to the community and honoring their courage during a dangerous situation.

“It was my honor to recognize both Mr. Davis and Mr. Gordon,” said Pollard. “In a moment when fear could have taken over, they chose courage. They put the safety and well-being of their fellow Houstonians before their own, and their actions are a powerful reminder of what it means to look out for one another.”

The proclamations recognized Davis and Gordon for stepping forward during the Aug. 14 shooting in Houston and putting the safety of others at the forefront during a moment of crisis.

During the incident, Davis and Gordon demonstrated courage and concern for members of the public as gunfire was occurring in the area. Their actions helped alert others to the danger and assisted in preventing unsuspecting members of the community from entering an area where they could have been at risk.

Their response reflected the importance of remaining aware, taking action and looking out for others when an emergency unfolds.
