Silambam Houston is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a season of performances, emerging artist programs, concerts and community programming designed to showcase Indian classical arts while highlighting the organization’s longstanding presence in Greater Houston.

Founded in 2002 by Executive Artistic Director Dr. Lavanya Rajagopalan, Silambam Houston has grown from an educational initiative into a nationally recognized organization dedicated to Indian classical dance, music and cross-cultural artistic development. The organization has also been recognized as a Houston Cultural Treasure.

The SILAMBAM25 season marks a quarter-century of artistic programming, cultural preservation and community engagement, with events taking place at venues throughout the Houston area.

Among the season’s highlights is YUVA 2026, an emerging artist festival scheduled for September 12 at the Silambam Houston Cultural Arts Center in Pearland. The program will bring rising Indian classical dancers and musicians from across the country to Houston for collaborative residency work, culminating in a new ensemble production.

Silambam’s ArtStream Concert Series also returns with an expanded five-concert season. The series will feature local and guest artists in an intimate setting at the Silambam Houston Cultural Arts Center. Performances are scheduled for October 3, 2026, January 30, February 27, May 2 and May 29, 2027.

The anniversary season’s centerpiece will be “Dance of the Cosmos,” presented April 2, 2027, at Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The production is one of Silambam Dance Company’s celebrated original thematic works, combining storytelling and intricate choreography around a universal elemental theme.

Another major event is “Chords of Confluence,” a specially commissioned Hindustani-Carnatic Jugalbandi concert celebrating the connections between two major Indian classical music traditions. The concert will be followed by an anniversary banquet honoring Silambam’s patrons, donors and longtime supporters. The event is scheduled for November 21, 2027, at the Houston Center for Musical Arts.

The season also includes Pragati Maarga, Silambam’s annual student showcase, featuring students from its dance and music academy programs. The showcase is scheduled for June 20, 2026, at the Marie Spence Flickinger Fine Arts Theater in Pearland.

The 25th anniversary season reflects Silambam Houston’s focus on preserving traditional Indian classical arts while creating opportunities for artists, students and audiences to experience those traditions in contemporary Houston.
