Homeschool students across Greater Houston can explore aviation, STEM and hands-on learning during Lone Star Flight Museum's special Homeschool Day …

For homeschool families across Greater Houston looking to take learning beyond the kitchen table or classroom, a day of hands-on aviation, science and exploration is landing in Houston this week.

The Lone Star Flight Museum at Ellington Field will welcome homeschool students of all ages on Thursday, Sept. 10, for a special Homeschool Day featuring interactive STEM demonstrations, flight simulators, aircraft tours and hands-on activities designed to bring aviation and science to life.

The program, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., gives families from Houston and surrounding communities an opportunity to turn a regular school day into an immersive educational experience at one of the region's premier aviation museums.

Students will be able to explore science, technology, engineering and aviation through activities they can experience at their own pace.

New activities this year include a hot air balloon STEMonstration and story time, along with maker activities where students can build their own hot air balloons, parachutes, rockets and candy airplanes before watching their creations take flight.

The event will also feature several returning favorites, including access to flight simulators and the museum's Learning Lab. Students will have the opportunity to perform a preflight check on a real Mooney Ovation aircraft and learn about air marshalling, the visual communication system used to guide aircraft on the ground.

Younger children will also have activities designed specifically for them, including Boeing Toddler Terminal Story Time.

Guided tours of the museum's aircraft collection will be offered throughout the event, giving families an opportunity to get a closer look at historic aviation. Visitors can also participate in a Plane of the Month Hangar Talk and learn more about the aircraft featured during the program.

The Homeschool Day program is designed for students of all ages and gives families an opportunity to combine classroom learning with an interactive museum experience.

Located at Ellington Field in southeast Houston, the Lone Star Flight Museum is home to the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame and a collection of historic commercial, general aviation and military aircraft. The museum also operates STEM-focused educational programs and its Aviation Learning Center, where visitors can experience hands-on aviation education.

Homeschool Day admission is $12 per person, with museum members receiving a $2 discount.

Families can learn more and register through the museum's website. Questions can also be directed to reservations@lonestarflight.org or by calling 346-352-7658.
