Shell Donates Custom Built "Super Gyro" Synergy Truck to Houston Food Bank

Truck to be used to help provide food for children in Houston communities

To support the Houston Food Bank in reaching their goal of providing five million hot meals for children in the Houston community by 2018, Shell is donating their custom built “Super Gyro” Synergy Truck, a product of the latest collaboration with the Shell #makethefuture campaign to the organization. The Synergy truck features several energy technologies which help to sustainably power the kitchen and the production of food from within the truck.

Kroger Helps Refill Flooded Closets with Massive Donation of New Apparel

Kroger donates 112,873 items of new clothing, shoes and other items to the Houston Food Bank valued at $2.5M from stores across the country

Thousands of people lost their entire wardrobe when Hurricane Harvey flooded southeast Texas. A donation of brand-new clothing and shoes from Kroger with a retail value of $2.5 million will help families refill their closets. It’s estimated that as many as 100,000 homes and businesses were destroyed or damaged by the flooding in late August, representing a tremendous loss of property and personal possessions.

The Houston Food Bank needs more partners to serve as distribution points to reach individuals who suffered losses from Hurricane Harvey. The widespread flooding created unprecedented need for disaster food assistance in the Houston Food Bank’s service area. A Food Bank analysis shows that we need more distribution sites to serve flooded families in a number of geographic areas.

Houston Food Bank Unveils New and Expanded Keegan Kitchen to Provide More Nutritious Meals to Children

More children living with uncertainty about whether they’ll have enough nutritious food to eat will be fed thanks to the Houston Food Bank and its new, state-of-the-art production kitchen. Construction is complete on the new 10,000 square-foot Keegan Kitchen, housed within the Food Bank’s headquarters/warehouse east of downtown. Production of nutritious hot meals for delivery to school-aged children at after-school and summer program sites is underway.
