Your Right to Vote Is Not Tied To A Political Party
It appears that our recent discussions about the importance of each of us becoming Registered Voters and using our right to vote has been taken by some as an endorsement of a political party preference, as a necessity to voting. For the record, there is no constitutional requirement of a political party affiliation as a condition of voting. One only has to declare a party affiliation in states requiring such affiliation for voting Democratic or Republican in primary races.
Our Vote: Our Weapon Against Racism
The recent electoral primaries are giving us important insight into the future politics of our country. All one has to do is look at the number of Trump supporters winning primary elections for a place on the November General Election ballots. Eight out of ten of the Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump have either lost their primaries or decided not to run again.
African Americans, Hate Crimes And Money
Recently, the California Department of Justice released a report which showed that African Americans are the greatest victims of Hate Crimes in the State. This is not surprising since we have always been the victims of Hate Crimes, with law enforcement seeking to underreport for fear of looking bad. At the writing of this editorial, there are more than 42 active investigations of shootings by law enforcement personnel in the State of California. This fact came to light recently as the San Bernardino Police Department attempted to avoid an investigation of the shooting of Rob Adams, who was shot 7 times in the back on July 16th.
America Has Two Law Enforcement Standards
The recent shootings by law enforcement of individuals being pursued by police have reminded many people of color of what appears to be an unwritten universal double standard. One would think that after the George Floyd murder and the subsequent murder of a young Black man following a traffic stop in the state of Minnesota, that something might have been learned. We just witnessed a young Black man in Akron, Ohio being shot more than 60 times by police following a pursuit for what allegedly was a traffic violation. We can still remember another Black man who was shot because he had a cell phone in his hand when confronted by police. The list is almost endless, from California to Chicago to North Carolina, from Missouri, and from New York City where a Black man was choked to death over some cigarettes.
America Needs Humanitarian Relief, Too
It is a good thing that America has been a lead nation in both providing humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine. It is good that we as a nation, Democrat and Republican, have been able to unify on this most important issue facing the world. It is also a good thing that America has been able to give hundreds of millions of doses of the COVID-19 Vaccine to struggling third world countries where people are waiting in lines while Americans refuse vaccinations for all kinds of reasons
The California Recall and You
Next Tuesday, every registered voter in the State of California will have an opportunity to cast a vote on the question of whether to recall Governor Gavin Newsom and replace him with one of over 40 candidates on the ballot, or, vote “NO” on question number one and keep him in office for the rest of his term. You might not think this election matters to you or concerns you. You could not be more wrong, if you fail to do your part by not voting, and he is recalled,
