Photography by Vicky Pink - On Saturday, June 22, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Hilton Americas Hotel as the Houston Area Urban League (HAUL) hosted the 45th Annual Equal Opportunity Day Gala. Local 2's Irika Sargent and Khambrel Marshall emceed the affair that featured entertainment from The Ernest Walker Band with Archie Bell. The Gala is a key fundraiser benefiting HAUL’s ongoing programs that serve the Houston community in areas such as workforce and economic development, housing and community service, education, and workforce training. This year’s Honorary Chairs were five Houstonians that serve on the National Urban League Trustee Board. Mr. John Hofmeister, Ms. Crystal Ashby, Ms. Tracy Faulkner, Mr. Harry Johnson and Dr. Kase Lawal. HAUL honored Marathon Oil – Quentin Mease Community Service Award, BMC Software – Marguerite Ross Barnett Leadership Award, Mr. Mark Thierry – Gerald Hines Corporate Award, Mr. Darryl King – Whitney M. Young Humanitarian Award and The Port of Houston Authority – Heritage Award. Some in attendees were HAUL CEO and President Judson Robinson III, Judge Clarease Rankin and Cary Yates, John Hofmeister, Jason Few, Shawn Thierry, Juana Collins, Harry Johnson, Linda Jones, Deavra Daughtry, Houston City Councilman Andrew Burks Jr., Terry Williams, Dr. Reagan Flowers, and Kristyn and Francis Page, Jr.
