Photography by Vicky Pink - On Monday, June 17, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Houston’s historic Fifth Ward as Reliant welcomed kids to new solar-powered splash pad. Reliant kicked-off the summer with the opening of its donated 2,340 square-foot splash pad play area in Houston’s Fifth Ward. The 18 solar panels in the play area are expected to generate approximately 6,600 kilowatt-hours of electricity, making the community project power-neutral and educational. The donation contributes to the ongoing rejuvenation work led by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation. The water park will be open annually from May through September and free to anyone who wants to cool off and have fun. Flipping the switch to summer fun at the splash pad was Reliant President Elizabeth Killinger; Houston Mayor Annise Parker, Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation President, Kathy Payton; Houston City Councilman Jerry Jones; and Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation Founder Rev. Harvey Clemons.
