Photography by Roswitha Vogler On Wednesday, June 11, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – Houston Branch as Comcast awarded $60,000 in scholarships to Houston-area students. 52 local high school seniors received a helping hand for college in the form of $1,000 scholarships from the Comcast Foundation. Two additional $4,000 Comcast Founder Scholarships will be awarded to two students during the scholarship awards ceremony. The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program recognizes students in local communities who have demonstrated leadership skills, academic achievement and a commitment to community service. State Representative Sylvester Turner presented all awards. The students also participated in a financial literacy workshop, “How to Survive College Without Going Broke” led by Susan Kizer. Also in attendance was Ralph Martinez, Senior Vice President, Comcast Houston Region.
