Photography by Vicky Pink On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Hyatt Regency Hotel for the 2014 NAACP’s Academic, Cultural, Technological & Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) Awards Ceremony & Reception. The ACT-SO is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. Twenty-four high schools were represented in this year’s Houston competition. During the ceremony, a tribute to ACT-SO scholars was given as well as a look back at past scholars was taken before awards were formally presented. Some in attendance were Andrea Arceneaux, Summer Thompson, Rev. Reginald Lillie, Diane Maben, Denise Ward, Diondre McKinney, Brittany Garrett, Kamal Jones, Fredhe Gatewood, Justin Thompon, Destiny Muhhamed, Caren Garcia, Sabrina Segoria, Cabria Scott, Korie Rihardson, Jona Sargent, Halcyon Sutton, and Avelina Holmes
