Photography by Vicky Pink On Saturday, May 24, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at MacGregor Park for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Parade and Victory March. Many gathered to celebrate the historic unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Statue and Park Plaza. Following the parade, a ceremonial unveiling of the statue and the memorial and Pan-African Cultural Festival occurred. The statue was the result of a collaboration with Black Heritage Society, Ovide Duncantell, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Martin Luther King III City of Houston. Houston METRO, and community leaders. Martin Luther King III was a very special guest . Some in attendance were Congressman Al Green, Jolanda Jones, Wanda Adams, Adrian Garcia, Al Edwards, Carl Davis, State Rep. Rodney Ellis, State Rep. Garnet Coleman, Jack Yates High School band, Dr Elwyn Lee, Dr. Terrance Fontaine, Merele Yarborough, State Rep. Sylvester Turner, State Rep. Senfronia Thompson, Houston City Councilman Larry Green, C.O. Bradford, and Dwight Boykins.
