Ars Lyrica Houston, the Grammy nominated early music ensemble, opens its 2017/18 season: Artful Women: Muse, Heroine, Musician, and Patron with Sweet Philomela on September 22, 2017 at 7:30p.m. in Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The opening concert features exotic musical works inspired by Philomela, mythical princess of Athens, whose transformation into a nightingale has fascinated poets and musicians for centuries.

Society for the Performing Arts Launches Commissioning Project for Houston Artists

Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) announces a new commissioning project for Houston artists, SPA Houston Artist Commissioning Project (HACP). SPA's goal is to promote and sustain Houston’s working artists and artist communities by supporting the creation of new works across all performing arts disciplines. In this pilot year, the project will progress through two phases: an initial period of virtual commissions, followed by larger-scale live performance commissions presented in Jones Hall for the Performing Arts.

Since this is such a treacherous for our young black boys and men successes should be celebrated to encourage and motivate them to continue on that right path. New therapeutic strategies proposed for some lung and kidney cancers

Study shows cancers with high levels of the SLC7A11 gene may respond to glucose transporter inhibitor treatment

New findings from researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center about how some cancer cells become “addicted” to glucose could open up fresh approaches to therapy strategies for cancers with high levels of an amino acid transporter called solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11). This includes lung cancer and renal cell carcinoma, the most common type of kidney cancer.
