Flood Control District Monitoring the Tropics in Anticipation of Severe Weather
The Harris County Flood Control District is actively monitoring a Tropical depression # 8 over the central Gulf of Mexico with potential impacts to our area. On the current forecast track, squalls and gusty winds will begin to spread from east to west across the Texas coastal waters Friday, early in the day from south of Sabine Pass and then progressing west toward Matagorda Bay Friday night and Saturday.

Flood Control District Monitoring Heavy Rainfall and Flooding
The Harris County Flood Control District is monitoring severe weather through the region. Overnight heavy and persistent rainfall occurred over far western Harris County into northern Fort Bend County where rain totals of 5-8 inches have fallen overnight from Jersey Village to Katy and resulted in significant street flooding and rises on area creeks and bayous.

Teach for America Receives Three-Year Americorps Grant From OneStar Foundation
Grant Will Help Recruit and Develop Leaders Working for Educational Equity throughout Texas
OneStar Foundation recently announced that it has awarded $550,000 in funding to support Teach For America’s programs in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley, and San Antonio over the next three years. This grant is part of $32.7 million that Texas received in federal AmeriCorps funding from AmeriCorps, formerly known as the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
