The cause of death of the child whose body was found abandoned in an apartment in Houston has been ruled "homicidal violence with multiple blunt force injuries," according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Rep. Thierry Selected to Serve on Steering Committee for Texas Maternal Mortality as Her Bill Passes Unanimously Out of Public Health Committee

House Bill 2403 will direct the Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Task Force to investigate the causes of why African American women die at three times the rate as other women during or shortly after childbirth. Authored by Representative Thierry (D-Houston), the bill was passed unanimously out of the House Committee on Public Health and has the endorsement of health organizations including the American Heart Association, March of Dimes, Texas Pediatric Society, the Afiya Center, and the Texas Medical Association.

From June 28 - July 8, 2018, young women from Tulsa, Oklahoma and Houston, Texas embarked on an International journey, paired with mentors, that would prove to leave a lasting impact on their lives.

HISD Expands Participation in Verizon Innovative Learning

The partnership will bring free tech education to more local Title I schools

On Thursday, August 18, eight HISD middle schools will kick off their participation in Verizon Innovative Learning, Verizon’s award-winning education initiative, which addresses barriers to digital inclusion and helps drive equity within education for some of the most vulnerable populations across the country. In partnership with Digital Promise, the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program provides free technology devices, internet access and innovative STEM learning programs to teachers and students to help give under-resourced students the technology, education, and opportunity they deserve. Being part of the program will keep students connected, helping to facilitate learning wherever it is taking place.

UPDATE: Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting at 13203 Robinglen Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at 13203 Robinglen Drive about 7:30 a.m. on March 30. The suspect, Quinn Henderson (b/m, 29), is charged with murder in the 232nd State District Court. He is accused in the killing of his son-in-law, Hollingsworth Green, 32, of the above address, who was pronounced deceased at West Houston Medical Center.

Senator Borris L. Miles Statement on Dioxin Found in Kashmere Gardens and Fifth Ward

"The City of Houston Health Department's finding of dioxin, a persistent, cancer-causing chemical in Kashmere Gardens, on top of the Texas Department of State Health Services' 2019 finding of a confirmed cancer cluster surrounding the Union Pacific (UP) creosote site, is alarming. This discovery is further proof that the UP permit application submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires additional scrutiny. The current plan does not go far enough to clean up the cancer-causing chemicals that have permeated the ground and water and negatively impacted these communities for decades.
