HMAAC Announces Poet Laureate Emeritus – Deborah Mouton Artist Residency At The Power Center

The Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC) is pleased to announce the May/June HMAAC artist residency of Deborah Mouton, the internationally known writ- er, educator, activist, performer, and the first Black Poet Laureate of Houston, Texas. The residency will take place at The Power Center in Houston, Texas and will involve engagement of students from The Imani School.

Summer Kickoff: Carnival Cruise Line and Houston Texans Partner for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston

The Houston Texans are big and burly on the gridiron as they dish out fierce hits and mean mugs but get them around a group of kids and that tough exterior just melts away. With smiles spread wide across their face it was hard to tell who was having the better time at the first ever summer kickoff celebration of the Carnival Cruise Line and Houston Texans at the Boys & Girls Club of Houston.

Hosted at Houston City Hall (901 Bagby St, Houston, TX 77002) in downtown Houston from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, the pop-up will feature Trill Burgers’ full menu, including the OG Trill Burger, Grilled Onion Burger, Vegan Smashburger, and seasoned fries, with burgers for sale on a first-come, first-served basis until they sell out.

Public Art UHS marks the opening of the installation with a series of events October 19, 20 and 21

Public Art of the University of Houston System (Public Art UHS), an arts organization that serves multiple campuses across the UH System and the greater Houston community, unveils its newest temporary installation: Folly by Mexico-based Cuban-American artist Jorge Pardo. This work marks the third project in Public Art UHS’s temporary public art program and the second site-specific Grove Commission developed for Wilhelmina’s Grove, a serene on-campus gathering space anchoring the UH Arts District. The Temporary Public Art Program of the University of Houston System is generously supported by The Brown Foundation, Inc.
