New office provides collaborative space, synergy with like-minded non-profit organizations to create a thriving Third Ward community
Civic Heart Community Services (Civic Heart) relocated its headquarters to One Emancipation Center at 3131 Emancipation Avenue in Houston’s Third Ward in June 2023. The 34-year-old organization, the largest black-founded non-profit organization in the Gulf coast region, formerly known as Change Happens!, recently announced its name change to Civic Heart Community Services.

Houston Health Department to Block Walk Neighborhoods to Protect Residents Against Zika, Mosquito Diseases
HHD employees will visit more than 1,600 homes to teach residents how to protect themselves against Zika and other mosquito borne diseases. They will go door to door through the neighborhoods to hand residents information packets with flyers, brochures, mosquito repellent and condoms and educate them about reducing mosquito breeding sites.

On September 21, 2017, I hosted the third annual 2nd Chance Job Fair, where we had over 4,000 participants and over 60 vendors post Hurricane Harvey. There were many people who were hired on the spot and those who are scheduled for interviews. I would like to thank the many volunteers who came out and our special guest, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Pastor Suzette Caldwell, Mr. Charles Wolf of Arcadis, our 2nd Chance Speaker Mr. Thomas Jackson, and Houston Legend Scarface. I am truly thankful for being able to assist those in need of a second chance.
