Houston Play On Purpose and Playwright Holly Charles announce the debut of the groundbreaking stage play Black, White & Sunshine, which sheds light on the disproportionality of minority children swept into both the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. While various procedures are in place to protect underserved youth, Sunshine exposes how one-size fits all policies and legislation often do a disservice to children of color and those born into less fortunate circumstances.

Mayor Sylvester Turner this week announced an innovative alliance between bp and Uber to explore the planning, development, and deployment of bp’s rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs in Hous- ton to help drivers on Uber’s platform make the transition to electric vehicles. The two companies will also work to- gether to identify potential areas within Houston that could support deployment of bp’s EV charging hubs and create a convenient and equitable network of charging available to the public.

Governor Abbott Appoints Eight To Texas School Safety Center Board

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Craig Bessent, Kerri Ranney, and Alan Trevino and reappointed Andrew Kim to the Texas School Safety Center Board for terms set to expire on February 1, 2020. Additionally, the Governor appointed Terry Deaver and Edwin Flores, Ph.D. and reappointed Dan Gilliam and Jill Tate for terms set to expire on February 1, 2021. The board reports to the Governor, the legislature, the State Board of Education, and the Texas Education Agency regarding school safety and security, and advises the center on its function, budget, and strategic planning initiatives.
