Pellerin Crowned Miss Black Houston 2017

Credit Rating Agency puts City on Notice about Downgrade in Absence of Pension Reform

Moody’s Investors Service has sent Houston a dire warning about the need for the Texas Legislature to approve the Houston Pension Solution. In its latest update on Houston’s $3 billion taxpayer supported General Obligation debt, the agency cites the “lack of a sustainable pension plan to address growing pension liability” as a factor that could lead to a downgrade in the city’s credit rating.

Schlitterbahn Galveston Officially Opens for the Summer

Houston area families get excited because the Schlitterbahn waterpark in Galveston has officially started its 2018 summer season. The park has opened its Schlitterbahn LITE sections to guests. Right now families with members of all ages can enjoy the park’s Blastenhoff and Wasserfest sections at a discounted price. The sections are now open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and until 8 p.m. on weekends.

Houston Pays it Forward: Donated Supplies On the Way to Assist Hurricane Michael Recovery.

HOUSTON - Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Friday the Houston Pay it Forward Donation Drive has collected enough hurricane recovery supplies to fill more than two, 18-wheelers. The trucks are on their way to northern Florida and other areas devastated by Hurricane Michael to deliver cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items, children and adult shoes and clothing, bottled water, diapers, and pet supplies.

Houston Ballet Cancels the Remainder of Its 2019-2020 Season

Houston Ballet announces its cancellation of the rest of its 2019-2020 season due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Performances effected include the rescheduled dates for Forged in Houston (May 21-31), Romeo & Juliet (June 4-14) and From Houston to the World, which was in the works to be rescheduled later in the season. Additionally, its community performances at Miller Outdoor Theater and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and much-anticipated tour to Spain this summer have also been canceled.

Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity Launches Houston Fund for Guaranteed Income Pilot Program in Houston

110 program participants to receive $4,500 over one-year period Applications accepted May 19 – 25, 2022

Today, the Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity (Houston Equity Fund), along with the support of Mayor Sylvester Turner, announced a one-year Guaranteed Income pilot program in Houston in partnership with Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI). The pilot program will provide $375 per month, totaling $4,500 annually, to 110 program participants in need. The Houston Equity Fund will disperse monthly stipends to Houston’s most underserved and under-resourced individuals with the goal of progressing toward a more equitable and prosperous city.
