Celebrating its 30th year as the nation's premier academic competition for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) will culminate the year-round program on April 16 when a new champion is crowned. The top quiz bowl teams from 48 HBCUs will travel to Los Angeles for the HCASC National Championship Tournament, April 13-17, on the Honda campus in Torrance, California.

Houston Furniture Bank awarded $1.5 million Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund grant to aid Hurricane Harvey families

Houston Furniture Bank has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation to provide essential furniture to families affected by the storm. The grant will make it possible for Houston Furniture Bank to provide furniture to 2,000 families to help them recover, expanding the nonprofit’s ongoing efforts to ensure that no child has to eat or sleep on the floor.

Disaster response teams and units from Texas are headed to Florida to support the anticipated relief efforts. Construction Complete on the Greens Bayou Glen Forest and Kuykendahl Stormwater Detention Basins

The Harris County Flood Control District has completed construction of the Glen Forest and Kuykendahl Stormwater Detention Basins, located in Greens Bayou. The two stormwater detention basins were funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the Hurricane Ike Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The Flood Control District matched the $39.2 million award, bringing the total cost of construction to $63.7 million.

The fashion industry – and particularly online fashion – continues to be male-dominated even though women spend over 200% more money on fashion than men. What’s more, even though 85% of people who graduate from fashion school are female, only 14% of the top 50 fashion houses are run by women.
