New Artwork Illuminates Houston’s Past with Multisensory Experience
The Bagby Street passage under Bayou Place, between Capitol Street and Texas Avenue, is now home to the newest addition to the City’s Art Collection. The Houston Oracle in Two Parts by sculptor Stephen Korns honors the city’s history while also improving the pedestrian experience in the Theater District. Korns used photographs, video, sound, reclaimed materials and special lighting to turn the underpass into a multimedia work of art. Like the artist’s signature Lunar Lighting project along Buffalo Bayou, the lighting for this new artwork changes nightly with the lunar cycle.

The Consulate General of India, Houston, in collaboration with Friends of Yoga, is organizing several events across Texas to celebrate the fifth International Day of Yoga (IDY). Houston will celebrate IDY on Friday, June 21 on the lush green lawns of Midtown Park (2811 Travis St., Houston, Texas 77006). The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a demonstration of some of the more difficult yoga postures (asanas) and a cultural program. After brief remarks from the Consul General of India Dr. Anupam Ray, the guided group yoga (Asanas or Postures), Relaxation, Pranayama and Meditation will be led by different yoga experts.

First West Nile Virus Mosquito Sample found in Northwest Harris County
Mosquito Season is back – prevent the bite!
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) has confirmed its first mosquito sample of West Nile virus (WNV) for the 2020 season. The WNV mosquito sample was identified in the northwest quadrant of Harris County. HCPH Mosquito and Vector Control Division (MVCD) began treatment to the area where the disease mosquitoes found on June 9, 2020 to reduce the risk of human infection.
