Earnest Pugh's Billboard Celebration Hosted by Houston Mayor!
Monday, May 15, 2017, Mayor Sylvester Turner honored award-winning gospel singer, Dr. Earnest Pugh for reaching the top 10 on the billboard charts with his hit single, "I Need You To Breathe". The single marks Dr. Pugh's 11th billboard chart topper. Amber Shaw of KYND 1520 and national radio personality Lonnie Hunter hosted the red carpet experience featuring several familiar faces such as Pastor Kim Burrell, Author Carlos Wallace, Gospel Singer Nikki Ross, Sky Houston of Majic 102.1 FM, Miss Mykie of BET, former Houston Texan's Player Mister Alexander, The Musicians' Wives, Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee, Earnest Walker of KTSU 90.9, Jonathan Martin of Fox 26, Mayor Sylvester Turner and the man of the hour, Dr. Earnest Pugh.

Houston Symphony Features Dance Students for "Petrushka"
The Houston Symphony is teaming up with dozens of students from Crespo Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School Dance Department and Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School Dance Ensemble for a modern-day staging of the 1911 ballet Petrushka, to be premiered at 8 p.m. May 11 and 13 and 2:30 p.m. May 14 at Jones Hall.

For the Houston Astros, Monday can’t come fast enough. They finally get a rest day after playing a grueling 11-games on the West Coast that left them with a 2-9 record on the road and brings their away record to 7-18 on the season with seven more road games left. Three of those games will be against the Seattle Mariners who currently trail them in the standings for second place in the A.L. West by 1 ½ games.

Harris County to End Unjust OmniBase Program That Will Give Tens of Thousands of Vulnerable Residents Their Drivers Licenses Back
The Program Currently has Holds on an Estimated 550,000 Driver’s Licenses in the Greater Houston Area
For Harris County residents, having access to a car is indispensable for daily activities such as getting to work, to a doctor’s appointment, and to pick up necessities like groceries. Particularly as COVID-19 cases continue to rise, and people are increasingly at-risk of losing their jobs, having access to safe and reliable transportation is critical. A recent report, Driven by Debt: Houston, estimated that not only does this program impact hundreds of thousands of drivers in the Greater Houston area, but that those impacted are disproportionately Black and low-income residents.

Meet Me At The Park Project Winner Announced
And the winner is... Wagner Greenspace! The half-acre undeveloped space near downtown Houston will receive a $20,000 grant from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and The Walt Disney Company to help make improvements and turn it into a community park. The funds will help pay for tree plantings, seeding, benches, bird houses, interpretative signs and trash bins to help transform the space into a neighborhood gathering spot for fun and healthy activities.
