Today, August 12, 2017, Representative Garnet F. Coleman (D-Houston) released the following statement: "Last Friday, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick made disparaging remarks about our cities and the local governments that run them. A nationwide 2016 Gallup Poll found similar results to polls taken since 2013, 71% of Americans polled say they have a ‘great deal’ or a ‘fair amount’ of trust in local government to handle problems, compared with 62% who say the same for their state government.

First of five Texas restaurants as part of 2019 expansion throughout the U.S.

Atlanta-based Tin Drum Asian Kitchen, a Pan Asian restaurant that transports its guests to a street side café in Asia, complete with hawker style cuisine and atmosphere, will open the first of five restaurants in Houston this year. Tin Drum has tapped experienced Houston restaurateurs Shairoz Lakhani, Avez Maredia and Faizan Momin to own and operate the five units in the Houston area. They are currently identifying potential locations and plan to open by the end of the year.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, millions of Americans are hunkering down at home. Working from the kitchen table, homeschooling, and attending virtual happy hours have become the new normal. But for the 34 million adults who live alone in the U.S., the pandemic and economic downturn bring a unique set of challenges, both financial and psychological. Shelter-in-place and social distancing orders can amplify loneliness for people who live by themselves. At the same time, those suffering job losses and other financial hardships can’t rely on a significant other or roommate to help cover essential costs.
